As we enter the dog days of summer, we would like to remind you to prioritize safety by focusing on hydration, back-to-school safety and heat illness prevention, while also observing important health initiatives and workplace safety.
🔥 Heat Illness Prevention: Know the Signs
Hot weather and long shifts can creep up on even the most seasoned team members.
Hydrate regularly, even when you’re not thirsty.
Rest in shaded areas during breaks when possible.
Report symptoms immediately: dizziness, heavy sweating, nausea or confusion.
If you see someone struggling, speak up and notify a supervisor or PSD.
As seasonal repairs and upgrades continue, please be extra alert to shifting risks in work areas.
No tailgating: All contractors have their own badges. Do not allow anyone to follow you in at badge access points.
Awareness around work zones: Stay clear of restricted areas, especially where overhead work, moving lifts, or electrical work is underway. Follow posted signs and avoid shortcuts through taped-off spaces.
Know who’s on site: Contractors should wear identifiable company uniforms. A yellow vest alone does not mean they’re authorized. When in doubt, call Public Safety. We’ll verify credentials or respond.
✅OSHA Safe + Sound Week: August 12–18
Workplace safety isn’t just policy, it’s practice.
In July, we had over two dozen fire code violations for obstructed fire extinguishers and emergency exits addressed and remedied thanks to staff reporting.
Your observations make the WCD campus a safer place. Keep them coming.
