Watch the Walls Come to Life + Join a Community Paint Day

Last month, we shared plans for our new back-of-house mural project designed to transform some of our everyday staff spaces into places that better reflect who we are and the pride we take in our work. Now, the fun part begins.

Starting Tuesday, February 10, you’ll see muralists at work in the skybridge and other back-of-house areas. Milwaukee artists Tia Richardson and Fred Kaems will kick things off, and you’re invited to watch the artwork take shape over the next couple of months.

The best part? You can be part of the process!

Artist Tia Richardson is hosting a Community Paint Day for staff to contribute to one of the murals. On Tuesday, February 17 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., staff can grab a brush and help paint a mural inspired by staff input. A true work of art created by staff, for staff.

If you are on duty during the Community Paint Day, please make sure to check with your supervisor before you participate. If you’re off duty, you’re still welcome to join (just note it’s voluntary and unpaid).

Anyone interested should go to the back-of-house Skybridge on the 200 level that connects the Baird Center’s North and South Buildings. The mural is being painted just inside the double doors that connect the Skybridge to the South Building.

The risk is low, but there is always a chance for a little paint to get on you. If you are concerned, please bring something you can throw over your clothes. Gloves and aprons will be available.

Whether you grab a brush or just enjoy seeing the progress each day, we hope you enjoy the transformation of our staff spaces into something that reflects our Bold. Proud. Experience Obsessed. culture.
